How to set up Mail Accounts, a step by step guide anyone can follow

 Back to Computer Info

Has Your email address been hi-jacked? You know... all the people in your address book get a fake message from you telling them they should buy computer thingos from some Chinese company today!! Or are you tired of downloading 10 messages and 9 of them are spam?

How do these things happen? In the Hi-jacking case, you have probably been sold out. Hotmail is famous for this. They can sell your data, and your contacts list to anyone and there is no law against it.

Email providers and even companies that have many users on their own system, routinely sell their list to spammers. Nothing can stop all spam mail as long as your friends keep forwarding those jokes and "virus warnings" with your address on it but it sure helps if your address isn't sold outright.

The Coastal Passage already provides secure, trustworthy mail accounts for contributors and is considering opening a web mail service for anyone. We have the domain of www.boatymail.com and if enough people are interested we will establish the site so anyone can have an address there. Your address would be, (insert your choice)@boatymail.com which you could direct to your computer or just use the simple web mail page from any internet source anywhere in the world.

We would promise never, ever to sell you out. We would never sell, lend or provide your info to anyone. We would never scan your mail to provide advertising information like Gmail does, never compromise your privacy in any way.

There would be a one time set-up fee to pay for time and contribute to hosting. Probably $10 to $20 AUD. If you may be interested in this, Let us know by sending an email here. There is absolutely no obligation involved. If there is enough interest in the idea, we will get back to you to let you know you can if you wish.
